Professional foundations
His professional career began in Russia's largest banks and financial groups, working with major corporate clients.
Corporate lending, financing structures, credit risk, documentary operations and leasing gradually expanded into responsibility for developing and managing major business divisions.
At banks among Russia's top five, Vitaly Smagin held senior roles at the level of senior vice-president and head of the large corporate clients directorate, and later became one of the leaders of the group's leasing business.
Practical experience in scaling a major financial company, developing client business and managing risk and a regional network formed a deep understanding of how financial institutions assess companies, make decisions and work with capital.

The history of SMAGIN & PARTNERS begins in 2007.
The company was established as an independent business adviser on corporate finance, investment, strategy and complex transformation challenges.
SP's practice included raising and structuring financing, investment consulting, restructuring and financial recovery, working with distressed and non-core assets, strategic development and supporting major investment projects.
A distinct area of work developed around public-private partnerships and concessions, transport and terminal-logistics infrastructure, transport interchange hubs, special economic zones, territorial development and attracting investment.

Experience within a major industrial organisation
A significant stage of his professional journey is connected with the State Corporation Rosatom, including its Engineering Division and JSC Atomstroyexport.
Work within one of the largest and most technologically complex industrial organisations brought experience in strategic and international development, participation in major international projects, organisational transformation and improving management systems for complex engineering projects.
This stage broadened his financial and investment specialisation with experience in large-scale organisations, an international environment, complexity, technology and the quality of management decisions.
Finance, entrepreneurship, investment consulting and experience in a major industrial corporation came together in a single professional school.
